Dear
Rotarians and Friends of
Rotary,
"Rotary
Shares", that's the
theme for this Rotary year
of 2007/2008. Rotary shares
with the Healdsburg community
and on International projects
with money it raises and
volunteer labor that our
80+ members contribute.
I am humbled and privileged
to be at the helm of this
active and viable non-profit
organization.
Rotary will be continuing
many of the worthwhile projects
that were started or refined
last year under the leadership
of Past President Nita Parker.
The Plaza Gazebo rebuilding
project is now complete,
with the help of a $5,000
contribution on the part
of our club. The Day Workerˇs
"shade shelter" at the work
center, the cost of which
was shared with the City
of Healdsburg, is complete
and is now providing a central
and organized point for
workers to gather and obtain
day jobs. We plan to enlarge
our Healdsburg High School
scholarship program through
our Scholarship Endowment
Fund fundraising efforts,
now that that program has
501c-3 non-profit status.
The Scholarship Fund stands
at over $160,000 presently,
with a goal to reach $250,000
within the next three years.
We will be continuing our
volunteer member "reader"
and "Spanish-English dictionary"
programs in the elementary
schools. And we are currently
considering supporting a
number of other projects
which I will elaborate next
quarter.
Some of our new goals and
programs for this year involve
outreach to Healdsburg High
School students. Career
days, mentoring and job
shadowing projects are being
scheduled for this fall
semester and is based on
our membership who have
experience in over fifty
professions. Our intent
is to help educate all interested
students in the exciting
career opportunities that
exist out there in the real
world, and yes, right
here in Healdsburg.
With the help of our capable
Board of Directors and our
membership, the Rotary Club
of Healdsburg will succeed
with these goals and continue
to share with this community
and the world.
Rotary Shares,
Roy Domke, Jr.
